As for the big stories during the month we had:
* The mayors of Dubbo and Gilgrandra slammed Macquarie Health boss Ray Fairweather over his handling of meetings to set up local health councils. The mayors said Mr Fairweather had given them the flick, not formally inviting council to a meeting.
* Dubbo's Westhaven Industries put in a bid to produce seating for the Homebush Bay Olympic Village, saying they were confident of being shortlisted for the tender.
* A leading real estate claimed more than 2000 households were given an automatic rent increase thanks to Dubbo City Council's introduction of a user-pays water system. Landlords were forced to pass on the new charges, and able to under the Residential Tenancy Act.
* Police smashed a juvenile gang in a city-wide operation that cut Dubbo's burglaries down by 70 per cent. A dozen people were arrested involving a total of 46 charges. Conducted largely by beat police and aided by detectives the operation was conceived and planned by senior sergeant Ian Fitzsimmons.
*The 1997 annual bride of the year was hotly contested at the 19th bridal fair.
