Earlier this month they welcomed the announcement mail delivery services would resume today since Australia Post took the posties off troubled streets surrounding where they were spat on and by youths armed with rocks and bottles.
Yet it is the kind of announcement one feels the need to 'touch wood' upon mentioning.
Australia Post said it will not hesitate to suspend mail delivery services again if the company believes posties are in danger.
State and federal MPs were quick to point out the troubled neighbourhood had undergone a transformation in the past twelve months, but many who live in affected streets will tell you that the area is by no means out of the woods.
Just last week one of those residents described the neighbourhood as 'diseased' after his shed was broken into and thousands of dollars worth of power tools were stolen, just weeks after youths surrounded him and demanded money in his own yard.
A residents sceptical about whether problems had been addressed wrote to the Daily Liberal asking, "Should we take bets on how long before it is suspended again?".
The vast majority of things do not come with a guarantee, including, unfortunately, that posties will be able to go about their duties without fear of being attacked and injured.
Past behaviour is often the best predictor of future behaviour.
West Dubbo residents will be hoping when it comes to the kind of behaviour that saw their mail suspended, it does indeed remain in the past.
