8:40am: BIRTHDAY SHOUT-OUT!
Is it your day of days? HAPPY BIRTHDAY if it is!
Did you know that you share your day of birth with the one and only Tom Hanks?
Don't pretend like you didn't burst with happiness when those leg braces shattered.
8:30am: For those of you who, like myself, thought life ended in 2008 when Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was released - THINK AGAIN!
J.K. Rowling has just published a short story on her website Pottermore penned under the guise of a column written by Rita Skeeter and filed from the Quidditch World Cup. The Daily Prophet clipping details a reunion of 'Dumbledore's Army' ("No longer the fresh-faced wizards they were in the day, but recognisable nonetheless"), once your favourite three wizards and now a group of maudlin thirty-somethings with thinning grey hair, the lingering signs of severe trauma and marriages on the rocks who were once the sole focus of the Harry Potter novels.
8:25am: Mayor against blanket smoking ban in CBD
Mayor Mathew Dickerson said there had been no issues raised which would lead the Dubbo City Council to ban smoking completely in the central business district.
With Orange and Bathurst councils reportedly in discussion to implement the ban across both the CBD areas, Cr Dickerson remains adamant that Dubbo residents are correctly following the legislation which is already in place.

8:15am: It's GAME DAY!
State of Origin III is upon us. Now the men in blue may already be the winners of the series, can they pull a miracle and come home with a hat-trick?
State of Origin still lends truth to old cliche
“You’re only good as your last game” is an outdated cliche belonging to the pre-NRL era, when a club fielded three teams on one day and a poor performance by a first grader saw him replaced by someone in reserve grade for the next match.
Today, with NRL clubs restricted to 25 players and a 17-man team/squad chosen, players know they can perform below par and still retain a place in the side.
8:10am: As a woman of red, I found this to be quite an interesting yet awkwardly alarming read:
8:00am: FIFA WORLD CUP UPDATE
7:55am: This might make you think twice before booking that luxury cruise holiday:
A search and rescue operation is under way near Vanuatu after a man on board a cruise ship went missing and was presumed to be lost overboard.

7:50am: If you're just joining us, why not have a squizz at sports flashback to June and July 1990.
7:45am: I don't know about you, but I found it pretty chilly this morning! Take a look at these brave souls showing the winter season what they really think.
7:40am: And now for our national headlines:
The traditional role of the primary school teacher as a jack-of-all trades should be scrapped because too many teachers have deficient mathematics and science skills, one education body says.
The federal Treasury is to lose its two top officials in coming months. Deputy secretary David Gruen will leave to head the Bureau of Statistics. His boss, Treasury Secretary Martin Parkinson, leaves in December as part of an agreement with the government to stay on until the G20 international leaders meeting in November.
Australia and Japan continue to hope for the best from China, but they are putting in place mechanisms to deal with the worst. This is the grave purpose underlying the new "special relationship" that Japan's Prime Minister has declared with Australia
The government has edged closer to abolishing Labor's climate change laws with a vote to axe the carbon tax to happen as soon as Wednesday. But as debate started in the Senate on Tuesday, new details of Clive Palmer's proposed zero-dollar emissions trading scheme emerged, and Australian Motoring Enthusiast Party senator Ricky Muir signalled plans to punch a further $1.3 billion hole in the federal budget by trying to save the Australian Renewable Energy Agency.
