The crowds gathered on Saturday afternoon to watch as Anna Tickle was crowned the 2014 ZooFM Dubbo Showgirl.
The 20-year-old, who relocated from the Hunter Valley last year, said it would be a wonderful opportunity to forge ties with the region.
The 2014 Dubbo Show produced a record number of entries in some exhibits and final crowd numbers may yet exceed last year’s 20,000.
Ms Tickle said country shows play an important role in the social and economic health of rural communities.
Having an elder sister who competed in the NSW Showgirl finals, Ms Tickle said she believed it was a valuable experience.
“I have seen first-hand the journey of personal development that the competition offers,” she said.
The 2014 Orana Mutual Dubbo Show was officially opened by the 2012 Dubbo Showgirl, Kennedy Tourle, who went on to be named the 2013 Sydney Royal Easter Showgirl.
Showgirl chief steward Sue Tink said it had been a week of anticipation leading up to Saturday’s announcement.
“After getting to know these ladies, it would be an honour to have any of them represent the community,” she said.
“We could never get this far without the continuous support from the Dubbo community.”
Runner-up Michaela Davis, Miss Teenager Showgirl Libby McAneney and entrant Elyse Burton boarded the back of a ute to celebrate Anna’s crowning as they joined the Grand Parade.
