The budget cut funding of $80 billion from education and health for the states – and it is western Sydney and, as usual, the regions that will suffer most, according to the Australian Education Union (AEU).
Dubbo schools will take a $24 million hit, according to the AEU.
The NSW Teachers Federation says the whole Parkes electorate will lose more than $50 million.
The figures are based on calculations of the Gonski education funding plan and what the Federal Government will actually give.
The government is refusing to honour the last two years of the Gonski agreements with the states.
The Teachers Federation said Gonski funding was needs based and would have directed funds to rural and remote schools, which were in need but the government’s plan would give money to schools elsewhere that did not need it.
The cuts have outraged the states, parents and students.
They can be seen as another promise broken by the Coalition, which committed to Gonski before it was elected.
There will be much debate and spin about the figures and the impacts.
The reality is that students in Dubbo and its surrounds are the losers.
They are already disadvantaged in terms of education standards compared to the big cities.
It is nothing short of a disgrace.
