Probus is an organisation affiliated with Rotary that aims to foster friendship and intellectual and cultural interests to enrich the lives of retired and semi-retired people.
Organising committee secretary Ken Windsor, who had been helping plan tonight's event since November, said it was expected to draw members from as far as Newcastle and Teralba.
"It's about getting people together in an environment of friendliness and fellowship, there are a lot of retired Rotarians and it's about them maintaining their contacts with other people so they don't disappear or just end up on the verandah in a rocking chair," he said.
After registration and a welcoming address, guests would embark on one of a series of coach trips.
"Some are going to the zoo, some to the Royal Flying Doctor Service base, others to the Japanese gardens and a lot are going for a tour of the city," he said.
Fletchers International Exports boss Roger Fletcher and Jessica Moore from the Western Plains Cultural Centre would also provide presentations.
Guests would enjoy Indian and classical dance performances and entertainment provided by a musical group affiliated with the South Dubbo Men's Shed.
Mr Windsor said the economy would benefit from the influx of visitors, many of whom were staying one or more nights in the city.
"One of the things we're definitely doing through this is promoting Dubbo as a centre for travel," he said.
