Policing is very much in the family for 29-year-old Probationary Constable Cristin McGee - her husband Senior Constable Chris Drummond is based at Narromine and her father Detective Senior Sergeant John McGee has 25 years' service in the NSW Police Force.
The past few weeks have been very busy for Probationary Constable McGee, who was married on April 19.
"We got engaged and booked everything before I was accepted into the academy, so it was a case of cancel it all or go head," she said.
"Luckily, I had lots of help from family and friends."
The pair managed to squeeze in a three-day honeymoon in the Hunter Valley ahead of Probationary Constable McGee starting her new role in Dubbo.
Probationary Constable McGee, who grew up in western Sydney, said her father had for years been trying to talk her into becoming a cop.
"I had been working in a law firm and had experience in learning and development, and finally I decided I didn't want to be in a desk job anymore, it was time." she said.
The academy had some challenges, according to Probationary Constable McGee, especially the physical aspects of training.
"Passing the fitness test was the hardest thing for me, it was full on, especially the running and the hand grip tests" she said.
While Probationary Constable McGee had been moderately active before starting her training, running had "never really been my thing", she said, so she had worked hard to build and maintain her fitness.
She said making lots of good friends at the academy was definitely one of the best parts of her training.
"And coming to Dubbo has been great, I'm told it's a great place to learn," she said.
Orana Local Area Command Acting Inspector Richard Morley was on hand to supervise Probationary Constable McGee on her first day.
"She'll have an orientation and then she'll be teamed up with general duties police and be out on the street straight away," he said.
