About 3pm a woman knocked on the door of a home on Strickland Street and asked an 84-year-old man to speak to his son, who has a brain injury.
Once the woman entered, a second woman approached the home and asked the man to enter and use the bathroom.
Police have been told as the second woman walked in, she took the man’s wallet and both women fled the scene.
Officers from Orana Local Area Command were called and established a crime scene.
The two women are described as being of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander appearance. They were last seen running south on Strickland Street.
Police believe the incident may be linked to a similar incident earlier in the day, also in Gilgandra.
Police are urging anyone with information about this incident to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or use the Crime Stoppers online reporting page.
