“We just want to win more games than last year,” he laughed.
After tasting victory just once in 2013, Aggies’ pre-season began in early March and Blackwell said fitness has been a focus.
“We barely did a pre-season at all last year,” Blackwell said.
“We’re focusing on fitness, and we’ve done plenty of it. We’re definitely looking stronger now than we did at this point last season.”
Blackwell said the green-and-blacks will take a new approach into season 2014, after a significant influx of players.
“We’ve lost quite a few of our bigger players, but gained quite a few good players too” Blackwell explained.
“Because of that we’ve been training with a different game plan to try and use our mobility a bit more.”
The plan has worked thus far, Blackwell said, in trials against Orange City and CSU Bathurst’s colts teams.
“They were both particularly good hit outs,” he said.
“We got wins up in both those games, and also played in the Orange City 10s. We didn’t win a game at the 10s but it was a good way to test our fitness out.”
Two teams’ GrainCorp Cup southern zone season has already begun, with Blayney defeating Grenfell on Saturday.
The other three round one games will all be played on April 26, with Aggies hosting Cumnock at Ron Gordon Oval, while West Wyalong take on Condobolin and Canowindra play Molong.
