The annual event brings more than 100 Toyotas from across the region and even further afield, with other makes also involved in Sunday's drag racing.
Saturday will see the show and shine held between 9am and 12pm at Ollie Robbins Oval, before a motorkhana out at the Dubbo Saleyards between 1.30pm and 5pm.
Drag racing will take place on Sunday at the Bodangora Airstrip near Wellington.
"It's been going for 38 years now so it has a long history behind it," organiser Dave McNeill said.
"It started with two brothers who lived in Queensland and Victoria who were car enthusiasts. They decided to meet and hold a car show and they decided that Dubbo was about halfway.
"Over the years the numbers have gone up and down but we added the motorkhana and drag racing a few years ago and that has increased the popularity."
Mr McNeill is a member of the Newcastle Car Club and they are responsible for the motorkhana, which runs at the Dubbo Saleyards. He said plenty of people from Newcastle make the trip because they enjoy the event.
"The motorkhana is a Toyota-only event but we have members of the Newcastle Club come down and not all of them have Toyotas but we let them have a run. They aren't required to come but they enjoy it that much that they drive over," he said.
The Dubbo Car Club are in charge of Sunday's drag racing.
McNeill said Dubbo is the perfect setting for the Nationals.
"The event works really well here. Everyone is so friendly and everyone gets behind us. The businesses here support us and so does the council," he said.
"This isn't a hoons event. It's not like what you see at Summernats, these are genuine enthusiasts. We run the motorkhana and the drags to give people the opportunity to have fun safely."
