Dubbo racing secretary Shane Stiff is expecting some good racing in today's heats, with some quality entries in the fields.
"It's not too often you have $50,000 in prizemoney being given away at a country meeting so next week will be big but the heats should be very exciting as well. There are some very good dogs in there and some heats where anyone could win," he said.
There are four heats for the Dubbo Gold Cup and Stiff's tip to take out the final next week is Toby Weekes' Waymore's Blues.
"Waymore's Blues should get into the final and would have to be the [overall] favourite. He has been racing well at Maitland and Wentworth Park. He is the first heat, along with Bekim Keeping, who is an outside chance. Lil Miss Sparkle is another in that heat who could go well.
"The second heat looks too close to call. In the third heat, Soviet Missile broke the track record over 600 and Cosmic Sloy has been very quick but I think the favourite will be Pure Arrogance. He was the dog that won all the races over 300 and 400 metres for Len Haaring. He has made the step up to 500."
In the final heat, Stiff likes the look of Crackin Sort, Bathurst Gold Cup winner Zipping Tess and Haves.
Last week the David Pringle-trained Long Range broke the Dubbo track record over 516 metres, streaking home in 29.63 seconds. This week he will be the favourite to take out the opening heat of the Peg and Bill Miller Memorial.
He has drawn barrier six and Stiff said he will face strong opposition but still shapes as the one to beat.
"Long Range is the one to beat but he will have to earn it. Oscar Keeping has drawn one and Bad Boy Sniper will go from the three, they are both in a with a shot," he said.
"Long Range is the brother of Shakey Jakey, who smashed the track record at Wentworth Park recently and has had people offering three quarters of a million to buy him so there is something in the blood there."
Other chances for the Peg and Bill Miller Memorial include Total Silence, Estella Keeping, Hot Lach and Mr Wheatley.
Today's 12 race meeting at Dubbo gets underway at 1.24pm with the opening heat of the Peg and Bill Miller Memorial at 2.02pm and the first Gold Cup heat at 2.47pm.
