Dubbo’s St John’s College won the Grand Champion steer category. Students raised and prepared the steer for the show and won four other categories.
The school has a strong record of show wins.
Dubbo poultry breeder David Geering had victories in two poultry categories, one of which he has won every year since 2006.
Warren auctioneer Justin Sanderson was runner up in a NSW young auctioneers contest and will represent the state in a national competition.
Walgett’s Sally Newtown was runner up in the show girl contest.
Other local entrants may not have taken out awards but just taking part after the major setbacks from the drought, a tight economy and other challenges shows that the people from the region can hold their own … anywhere, anytime.

Inland NSW has taken a major, positive step with its campaign to boost tourism to Dubbo and some neighbouring towns.
The aim is to double overnight stays and spending by tourists.
A smart move. For every dollar spent in Dubbo, an extra 91 cents flows through the local economy.
Figures for 2013 are not available but in 2012 Dubbo received $175 million with an overall economic impact of about $330 million.
That is serious money and we all need to back the campaign.
