One the important events that was held as part of the City for Youth Week was Party Safe, which aimed to inform, educate and promote safe party behaviour.
The Western NSW Local Health District, working together with Family Planning NSW Dubbo presented a range of fun activities, including condom relay races, beer goggle games, quizzes and snakes and ladders.
Nurse Unit Manager for Dubbo Sexual Health Clinic’s, Margie Crowley, and Georgia Simpson, Co-ordinator of Blood Born Virus Prevention Programs for Western and Far West Local Health Districts, were on hand to give leading expert advice.
Ms Simpson says Party Safe is all about giving young people the tools to discuss sexual health and safe behaviour.
“Promoting safe party behaviour is about giving young people and their peers the tools to engage and discuss matters such as sexual health, sexual identity and safer partying behaviours,” she said.
“So that they can protect themselves against a range of sexually transmissible infections and blood born viruses.”
Inhibitions are lowered when drinking, explains Ms Simpson, and she encourages young people to make better, informed decisions.
“What we try to do it give people the tools to make healthier choices regarding their sexuality and their partying.”
