The defending premiers have lost halfback Chad Porter to the South Sydney Rabbitohs under-20s squad while captain-coach Pat Rosser is expected to miss up to the first eight rounds after undergoing groin surgery recently but the Spacemen showed they would still be a forced to be reckoned with in 2014.
Parkes were also victorious in the reserve garde, winning 6-0 in a hard fought match while Forbes tasted joy in the under-18s as the young Magpies won 34-4.
Meanwhile, in Nyngan on Saturday the home side defeated the Cobar Roosters in first grade and under-18s.
With no reserve grade match played, the Nyngan Tigers made it two wins from two as both matches finished 32-22.
Cobar will take heart from the match as they look to build on a disappointing 2013 with new president John Claus at the helm and Nathan Graham joining as captain-coach.
The Tigers meanwhile had a season to remember in 2013 as their efforts on the field and passionate supporters took the competition by storm.
Their first grade side made it to the minor semi-final while the reserves made it all the way to grand final day before they were defeated by CYMS, and with former Australian representative and St George Dragons and Illawarra Steelers star Rod Reddy joining as club coach, the club looks well placed to make an impact again in 2014.
Group 11 secretary Bob Walsh told the Daily Liberal yesterday there were representative selectors in attendance at all matches during the weekend with pre-season form coming into consideration for Group 11 and Western Rams selection.
The selectors will be head around the grounds again this weekend as CYMS meet Macquarie, Westside host Nyngan, Narromine travel to Parkes and Wellington take on Forbes.
