The shirt pressing, for First and Platinum One Qantas Frequent Flyers, is part of a new hosted service in partnership with Sofitel that also includes arrival drinks, shoe shining and priority access to the 12 shower suites in the lounge.

Tiling, screens and trees delineate the lounge which seats 300 and there's a cocktail bar area, with 120-metre views across the airport.

Menus have been designed by chef Neil Perry based on his Rockpool and Spice Temple restaurants using regional flavours and served from the Spice Temple BBQ Bar, buffet and trolleys.

The tray-around service includes Perry classics such as salt and pepper calamari and there will be daily plates in which guests seated in the dining area will be offered a local dish of the day with matching wine.

The lounge is designed to reflect the colour, vibrancy and luxury of Hong Kong, according to Qantas International chief executive Simon Hickey which also has a family zone and a flexible working area with Wi-Fi printing.

The rich food pickings are designed to leave those on the flight to Australia sated and ready for sleep. Guests travelling in business class can request in the lounge for their lie-flat seats to be made up after take-off.

“All of our flights from Hong Kong to Australia are overnight, so we know customers will enjoy being able to dine in the lounge before they fly so they can maximise their sleep onboard,” Hickey says.

The Hong Kong lounge is open to Qantas First and Business customers, Platinum One, Platinum and Gold Qantas Frequent Flyers, Qantas Club members and their guests, and eligible oneworld Emerald and Sapphire customers and guests.

Qantas is also working on two new lounges in Los Angeles. The Los Angeles Business Lounge, jointly owned Cathay Pacific and British Airways opens mid-year and the Qantas First lounge by year's end.

Airlines around the world are upgrading their offerings to their most lucrative customers, with new cabin designs and improved lounges. Virgin Australia recently opened its new domestic lounge at Melbourne Airport, while Singapore Airlines opened a new lounge at Sydney Airport in December.
