Adam Scott Dubois, 29, of Dubbo, was stopped in Darling Street at 1.55am on February 22 by officers working on the Operation Drink Drive 1 road safety campaign.
Documents tendered to Dubbo Local Court said a Holden Captiva driven by Dubois was swerving noticeably.
When the vehicle was stopped the driver smelled strongly of alcohol.
He was found to have a blood alcohol reading of 0.184.
When officers told Dubois his licence had expired he is alleged to have said "when it rains it pours".
Dubois was excused from appearing in court in person when charges of high-range drink-driving and driving with an expired licence were brought before Magistrate Andrew Eckhold.
The solicitor representing Dubois said he had enrolled in a traffic offender education program.
Dubois will return to court on May 14.
Prosecution documents said Dubois had an estimated 10 schooners of beer at the Pastoral Hotel from 4pm.
