Orange came out on top in the "Top 100 Regional Suburbs For Family Living", compiled by RP Data for Aussie Home Loans, which looks at a number of factors including house prices, block size, average number of bedrooms and ease of access to facilities like schools and hospitals.
The towns of Wallan and Bacchus Marsh in Victoria claimed second and third, just ahead of Dubbo.
Dubbo City Council Mayor Mathew Dickerson welcomed the result and said the city's residents are already aware of how good a place it is.
"It's confirmation of what we already know. Whenever I'm in Sydney or somewhere else and on my way home, I tell the taxi drivers I am heading back to paradise. I then spend 15 minutes telling them why I think Dubbo is paradise," he said.
