GREG Ryan admits it's probably harder than ever to ride winners but that hasn't stopped the Dubbo rider from once again leading the NSW jockeys premiership at the halfway point of the 2013/14 season.

Ryan has won numerous titles over the years, including the last four state premierships in succession and with six months of the current season remaining it would take a brave person to suggest he won't do it again.
In fact, he may be heading for his best tally of winners in a number of years.
Ryan currently leads the premiership with 79 winners so far for the 2013/14 season.
He sits 19 wins clear of the evergreen Robert Thompson, who himself is approaching his 4000th winner in the saddle over a glittering career.
Last season, when Ryan rode 153 winners, it was his best effort since 2006/07 when he steered home 175.5 winners.
A year prior to that he had 201.
If he keeps at his current rate for the remainder of this season he could finish with close to 160 winners for 2013/14.
Statistics reveal that during the 10 seasons prior to the current one, Ryan has piloted 1502 winners to firmly cement himself as the punter's pal in bush racing.
"It's not getting any easier and there's plenty of long days in the car but it's nice to be getting the rewards," Ryan said.
"At places like Bathurst and Orange, Scone and Cessnock, there's more and more of those Sydney and provincial horses going to the races there and it's very hard to get on the right horses at those places.
"I'm lucky that I've got a good relationship with Luke Griffith's stable and also a lot of trainers out this way as well, but whenever you're taking on those metro and provincial horses it's always that bit tougher."
