The workshop was one of a number of projects throughout the region to share in a total $20,033 from the state government.

The Country Arts Support Program (CASP) is a key regional arts funding program for NSW that provides support to employ artists in locally-initiated arts and cultural projects.

Its aim is to provide access to arts activities for small communities, to encourage communities to work together on creative projects, to foster cultural diversity in the region and to ensure that regional and rural areas have an artistic voice.

Eight applications from the region were successful in the 2014 round, with projects spread across the region including Dubbo, Dunedoo, Trangie, Kandos, Mudgee and Coolah, Alicia Leggett from Orana Arts reported.

Most groups in the Orana Arts region, which includes Dubbo and four other local government areas, received the entire amount requested in their application.

"We had a competitive year for CASP in 2013, and the span of projects covering the spectrum of art forms is indicative of our vibrant and creative community," Ms Leggett said.

"We look forward to seeing these projects develop within their communities."

'Secrets, Lies and Film-making', run by the Outback Writers Centre, will introduce participants to the tools, concepts and processes of dramatic screen storytelling in an intensive 2.5-day workshop.

It will be led by Billy Marshall Stoneking and project co-ordinator Val Clark yesterday welcomed the $1700 boost.

Trangie had success with its proposal to create a collective visual arts mural, capturing a $2376 grant.

A local artist will work with the students of Trangie Central School to co-ordinate and create the mural, which will encourage each student to identify their place in the small community.

Other recipients included Base Art Inc, Coolah District Development Group Inc, Dubbo Folk Club, Dunedoo Central School P and C Association, Triple Oh Productions and Women's Hub Rylstone-Kandos.
