Eleven Group 11 players made the Western Rams under-18s side last season while Tom and Craig Field and Billy Sing went on to represent NSW Country. Nelson said he's excited to help the next group of promising juniors after being named as coach at the meeting of Group 11's management committee last week.
"I'll have another crack at it again. It was a good experience last year and we got a few kids to play for NSW Country and that's the ultimate aim," he said.
Many of last season's players have moved up into the senior ranks while two of the remaining players, Kaide Ellis and Nick Greenhalgh, have linked up with the Penrith Panthers SG Ball side and will be unavailable but Nelson is confident he'll have another strong side.
"We'll have the similar goals. We'll be trying to get kids into the Western and Country teams," he said.
"We'll lose Kaide Ellis and Nick Greenhalgh but there's always kids coming through, I was involved with the Western camps over summer and we went through that process and there's some talent there."
Newcomer Daniel Swann will act as Nelson's assistant after the pair met at a Level 2 coaching accreditation course and Nelson said he's excited by the chance to work with the young Country Rugby League (CRL) Development Officer.
"He's a great kid and he's really keen to do some of that hands on coaching stuff and seeing as though there weren't a lot of positions I asked him to help me and the skills he'll bring to the development side will really compliment the side nicely," he said.
Andrew Pull and former Macquarie Raiders under-18s coach Greg Edwards will manage the side while the strappers will be Tony Mann, Patty Walker and Mick Barlow.
With the season now getting closer Nelson, who also coaches cricket during the summer months, said he was already looking forward to be part of representative footy again.
"I love it and I love coaching kids at any level or any sport and it's rolling around again quick so I'm looking forward to it," he said.
