Ridge under-12s truimph 28-0



Game 1 v St George: This was another close game. Shelton scored a run-away try up the sideline. Harry Deshon kicked a goal. Lightning Ridge kept St George scoreless. Tom Barrett was the man of the match.

Game 2 v Mungindi: The team was boosted in this game by the tackling of under 8s recruit and man of the match Lincoln Wood.

Jacob Ellis scored a try as did Harry. Chris Jones kicked a goal. The final score was Lightning Ride 10 and Mungindi 6.


Tigers v Dirranbandi: Oscar Cheal led the side out as Captain. Dirran attacked hard but great defence by Jack Stone, Pat and Peter Demaine. Oscar made two tackles. Dirran kicked on the last but the Ridge knocked on.

We were defending again, Ryan Morgan (Morgo), Stoney and Peter along with Dan McIntosh forced a changeover.

Peter, Rylan Simms, Pat and Ryan Brown ran well. Jett Tishler and Jack Gough made good ground up the centre.

Dirran ran at us again but Pete made a great tackle, we had the ball.

Oscar, Stoney and Pete ran towards Dirrans line.

Oscar to Rylan to score under the post, Jett converted. After 10 minutes we led 6-0.

Kick off saw Dan run well.

Pat, Goughy, Stoney and Pete worked hard. Dirran lost the ball first tackle and we attacked with young gun Tom Barrett running 20 metres, threw a ball back to Stoney, on to Pat and Goughy.

Jett kicked. Pat ran hard, then Oscar and Priscilla Barker.

We got a penalty. Oscar from first receiver put Pete over. Pat converted.

After 15 minutes we led 12-0. Morgo and Priscilla run hard after the kick off, Browny, Pat and Goughy combined well. Changeover.

We got a penalty, Dan took a quick tap only to be just short of the line.

Stoney gets the ball passes to Oscar who runs straight to score a great team try on half time.

The half time score 16-0.

The second half began with Jett, Stoney, Goughy and Pat all running hard, along with Pete.

Dirran had the ball, Pat, Jett and Stoney all tackled. There was a scrum, Oscar, Rylan, Dan and Pat all held Dirran out.

Dirran kicked, but after a good ball from Oscar Pete runs 70 metres to score under the posts.

The score is now 20-0. Dan makes good ground from the kick off. Rylan runs, to Pat.

Changeover. Jett makes three good tackles, Oscar and Pat join in. Changeover, Jett ran 40 metres down field, Browny, Stoney, Jacob Ellis all had runs.

Dan the man scoots from dummy half, scoots over for a great try. We led 24-0. Stoney takes the ball up from the kick off.

Browny, Rylan, Pat, Stoney and Goughy all run hard. Changeover sees Morgo, Dan, Rylan, Jett and Browny tackle, as a result we get the ball back.

Dirran were desperate to score but our defence was unbelievable. We got the ball back.

From the scrum Oscar passes to Stoney, then to Pat, then Jett who scores another great team try.

From the kick off young guns Barrett and Jacob make big tackles.

Final score was 28-0. Stoney was awarded players’ player with his best performance all year.

Congratulations to Ryan Weatherall, Jack Gough, Jack Stone, Oscar Cheal, Jono Brown and Dan McIntosh for their selection in the Balonne Barwon under 43kg squad who will play at Miles, Queensland early July.

Once again there is a great representation of Tigers in the team, five of whom took out the carnival in Cunnamulla last year.

This weekend is a home game so come down to Spider Brown oval and see the talent that we have on offer in all of our teams. Games kick off at 9.00.

The JRL will be raffling a Lightning Ridge Tigers Guernsey and an 82cm LCD TV donated by LRE.

There will be a disco for all 5-12-year-olds on Saturday Night in the Pub in the Club from 5pm-8pm. Entry is $5 per child or $12 for a family. There will be a lucky door prize and other prizes will be given out throughout the night.
