RECENTLY retired Orana Local Area commander Superintendent Stan Single, APM had 42 years of distinguished service celebrated when he marched off the parade ground at the Goulburn Police Academy yesterday morning

He was one of five retiring police officers, with almost 200 years of combined loyal service, honoured with the salute of NSW Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione during the Attestation parade.
Commissioner Scipione said the Superintendent Single and his four colleagues had tirelessly dedicated their lives to making communities safer throughout NSW.
Superintendent Single joined the NSW Police Force as a police trainee at Metropolitan on February 22, 1971.
He progressed through the ranks, achieving Senior Constable at Metropolitan in August 1980. During this time he performed duties in traffic, general duties and water police.
He later moved to State Operations where he worked in the Fingerprints Training and Reserve Units, and then to Inner West, where he was stationed at Newtown. He also worked at Balmain, Cooma and Wilson Valley.
In July 1987, he was promoted to sergeant and moved to Walgett Patrol, which incorporated his much loved Lightening Ridge, where his love of community-focused policing blossomed.
His community involvement continued after he was promoted to the rank of Senior Sergeant in December 1995 and moved to Wilcannia.
During his time at Walgett and Wilcannia, Superintendent Single was actively involved in local youth programs, including Giyaali, blue light discos and the Lightning Ridge Police Bush Safari.
Superintendent Single moved to Port Macquarie, then Mudgee, before spending two years at Tweed Heads. It was during this time, he was promoted to Inspector, on September, 21 1999.
In January 2001, he was promoted to Superintendent before returning to Western NSW on December 11, 2001 and stationed at Bourke.
Superintendent Single returned to Walgett in 2004 as the Local Area Commander, where he stayed for four years. After this time, he moved to Orana Local Area Command, where he stayed until his retirement.
During his proud career, Superintendent Single was awarded the Australian Police Medal, National Medal, National Police Service Medal and NSW Police Medal.
Superintendent Single retired from the NSW Police Force on Monday September 30, 2013, after 42 years of service with NSW Police Force.
