Colts’ teenage wicket-keeper batsman Michael Ying-Sing will debut for the side team and manager Mick Davis said it is another chance for Dubbo’s aspiring representative cricketers to test themselves under the tutelage of skipper Nathan Munro.
“We’ve had a huge response this season from guys wanting to play representative cricket and it’s good that guys are keen and also enjoy the fun that comes with it,” he said.
“And the side will be captained again by Nathan Munro and he’s a great leader.”
Dubbo opened their season with a crushing eight-wicket win over Gilgandra but Davis said the side is fully expecting a stern test against Nyngan.
“They usually come out blazing, they’ve got some big hitters like Cameron Burke, Richie Deebank and Tim Smith is a real talent who loves playing at No. 1 Oval.
“He’s a bit scratchy to start but if we don’t get him early it can be a long, hard day.”
Davis said Nyngan batting is the main area of concern for his side but did single out Mitchell Williams-Hedges as a bowler who would test his side.
“I don’t think they’re overly stocked in bowlers but Mitch Williams-Hedges is really good and he’s a young quick who will become a quality bowler.”
The Brewery Shield side has been a hugely successful environment for some of Dubbo’s best young players to test themselves before entering the Western Premier League and SCG Cup competitions. This is evident by the Asher Robins and Will Wolter both being unavailable on Sunday after being called up for Dubbo’s Premier League clash in Cowra.
Davis said this progression from the youngsters was a great thing to be a part of.
“It really is good, some of these kids I’ve been around, either with or against, for close to five years and to see them develop is great and it’s very, very rewarding,” he said.
“I’ve seen Asher come through and he’s just been going from strength to strength and Will Wolter is an exceptional talent.”
Davis said Sunday would be a big opportunity for the likes of Aiden Bennewith and Dan Holland while again praised the efforts of skipper Munro.
“He really helps the young guys and he’s right on top of his game and leads by example,” he said.
“He makes really good bowling changes and instils a lot of confidence.”
Sunday’s match begins at 10am.
