The National Day of Climate Action is a nationwide event being co-ordinated by the grassroots advocacy organisation, GetUp, which harnesses people power on a wide range of issues to hold politicians accountable on issues of importance.
Federal parliament resumed yesterday, its first sitting since the election and GetUp's climate action campaign on Sunday was aimed at getting the incoming government to aim higher when it comes to climate change action.
Organiser of the Dubbo National Day of Climate Action event, Paige Williams said while the intent of the campaign was important and the message could not be lost, it was also a fun way of bringing community together, something the FSAC was keen to do.
"We want people to come to the Fire Station Arts Centre from 11am on Sunday dressed in the colours of summer - red, orange, yellow, and to bring things that you would associate with summer such as zinc, beach umbrellas, floaties, sunglasses, picnic rugs, drinks and picnic food," she said.
The Red River Collaborative Mural Project will get under way from 11am at the FSAC on the National Day of Climate Action.
