Rodney Pitt, 34, has been held in jail since his arrest at Walgett on December 24 last year.
Adjournments have been requested each time the matter has come before Dubbo Local Court.
Pitt appeared before Magistrate Andrew Eckhold via audio-visual link from the Metropolitan Regional Remand Centre yesterday.
The Department of Public Prosecutions applied for an adjournment to September 5.
The prosecutor said a paper committal was expected to proceed on that day.
There was no application for bail which was formally refused by the court.
Police used capsicum spray to arrest Pitt at Walgett following a violent attack in a Dewhurst Street house.
Police allege Pitt stabbed Leslie James Pitt in the head and neck with a 25cm filleting knife.
The court heard the victim was found lying on a blood-stained bed. Blood was flowing from extensive cuts on the hands of the accused.
The prosecution said Pitt had been diagnosed with acute schizophrenia and had a long history of failing to take medication, consuming alcohol and cannabis and lapsing into paranoia.
