Forensic officers and a sniffer dog scoured the Sappa Bulga Road property as Orana Local Area Command Detective Sergeant Mark Meredith told assembled media police had grave concerns for the welfare of the missing man.
"We have real fears that he has met with foul play," he said.
An earthmoving contractor had been called in to shift piles of large logs in a paddock near where a command post had been set up.
Detective Sergeant Meredith said the search had come after tip-offs from the public.
"The welfare and safety of Alois is paramount to us and certainly the family," he said.
"The investigation is ongoing. Information has been forthcoming from the public and we appeal for that information to keep coming."
Earlier in the afternoon, police executed a search on a Fitzroy Street house.
Officers brought a firearm out of the residence and onto the verandah, inspecting it then replacing it in its case.
Mr Rez was last seen at his Alfred Street home on July 28.
Officers had since been at that home for several days collecting evidence and placing it in bags.
Meanwhile, State Crime Command's Homicide Squad had been called in to assist local detectives, as it was highly out of character for Mr Rez to be missing for this length of time.
Mr Rez is described as being of Caucasian appearance, about 180cm tall, of solid build with a shaved head and numerous tattoos on his arms. An image of Mr Rez appeared on Facebook page Australian Missing Persons Register on Monday.
Meanwhile associates of Mr Rez desperate for news of his whereabouts have taken to social media to share his image and description across Australia.
