The council's economic development officer Josie Howard said a request to have the fibre footprint extended to support businesses across the city and the extension areas include:
o institutional areas precinct, including Charles Sturt University and the hospitals
o Taronga Western Plains Zoo and Camp Road tourism precinct
o Pilon's Industrial Estate.
"This is great news for businesses on the outskirts of Dubbo," Ms Howard said.
"Earlier in the year we engaged local industry to push for the fibre extensions and submitted maps and a written submission to NBN Co outlining the city's request for an additional four areas to be included in the planned roll out."
Three of the four areas for extension requested were approved.
"This is a very pleasing result for the council which will ensure these businesses are able to benefit from high speed broadband that connection to the fibre network will provide," she said.
"Many of the businesses who were a part of the consultation and submission process have contacted me to express their satisfaction with the outcomes we've achieved. Some businesses have told me that the benefit to their business will not only save them time, but also money."
Rod Pilon, one of the business owners to benefit from this extension welcomed the decision.
"All of us at Rod Pilon Transport sincerely appreciate the efforts of the council to achieve this outcome," he said.
The North Dubbo industrial precinct including Fletchers and Moffat Estate which was the final area included in the submission from the council will not be included in the initial fibre roll out because NBN Co have determined the premises are too sparse to warrant the roll out of fibre.
The area will be serviced by the wireless network and council will continue working to investigate avenues for connections to the fibre network through NBN Co's new developments program.
