THE construction of seven units valued at $2.2 million is about to begin at the United Protestant Association's Bracken House facility with the signatures on contracts and plans finalised yesterday.

UPA's district manager Megan Whitney said the seven new units of stage four of the complex would lift the total to 31 and construction was due to be completed by March 1 next year.
She said there were only two units left to fill in the existing 24 in the village and the management committee hoped to sell the proposed units off the plan which would allow an immediate occupation once the handover from the builders took place.
One of the features of the new stage will be the installation of three, 70,000 litre tanks underground to harvest stormwater runoff from the buildings in the village.
Ms Whitney said the water collected would be used for toilets and watering gardens and help to reduce the demand on treated water. UPA Dubbo district president Lex Bramble said two more stages of development were still on the drawing board which would add a further 120 units to the village. He said the construction of a community room or centre would also be part of future development.
"We'll build the community room near the [proposed] barbecue area and it will give us a social hub right in the middle of the village," Mr Bramble said.
He said other work in the village would include the installation of eight more dementia beds in Bracken House and 12 more hostel beds in the western end of the complex.
"It will mean a lot of redevelopment," he said commenting on the proposed increased in beds.
