Doctor Serisier has been honoured with an Medal of the Order of Australia for his service to medicine in the field of neurology.
He is the specialist neurologist and visiting medical office at the Wollongong Public Hospital and was involved in establishing the stroke and neuroscience unit at that hospital in 2002.
Dr Serisier said he was born in Sydney even though his family had ties with Dubbo.
He said his grandfather, who had a legal practice at Dubbo, was mayor [EB Serisier, 1938 to 1944 and 1947 to 1950] but Dr Serisier's father and mother had moved to Sydney where he was born and educated.
Dr Serisier said he was thrilled by the honour.
