A new Toyota Camry Hybrid was Councillor Dickerson's car of choice after a trade-in of the old mayoral vehicle, a Holden Caprice V.
Since 2005 Cr Dickerson has been pushing to make hybrid cars part of the Dubbo City Council fleet.
"Now seven years down the track you have the proof that the hybrid is a great concept," he said.
"We actually have got to the point where two staff cars are hybrid."
Stepping away from "just burning fossil fuels" and making a "sensible transition" towards a hybrid car was a good environmental option, Cr Dickerson believed.
"I think there is a responsibility for council to lead," he said.
"I think we saw that with the solar panels."
Cr Dickerson said the Camry Hybrid would be more suitable for his mayoral duties around Dubbo, having a better fuel economy and costing about $20,000 less than the Holden Caprice V.
"For mayors gone by they probably did drive to Sydney but I would fly," he said.
"I have never driven to Sydney in my role as mayor."
A Toyota Prius Hybrid was considered as the next mayoral car but a recent visit to Toyota's plant at Altone, near Melbourne, changed his mind.
Although it was a trip unrelated to his Dubbo City Council duties, it helped swing Cr Dickerson's decision to the Camry Hybrid.
A primary reason was that the Prius Hybrid is an imported model.
Cr Dickerson said there was little between the two models but the fact the Camry came out of the Australian factory that employed 2491 people was an influence.
