DUBBO trainer Barry Lew will appeal a 12-month disqualification handed down to him on Monday as a result of a positive swab from his stable star Karloo Mick last October.
An appeal is expected to be lodged this afternoon in an attempt to allow the horse, which won the Group 3 Australia Day Cup (2300m) late last month, to compete in Saturday's Inter Dominion heats at Menangle.
The 12-year-old horse's fate, and most probably his career, is in the hands of a judge who will determine whether Lew is granted a stay of proceedings until the appeal can be heard.
It is the second time in the space of less than 12 months Lew has been disqualified for a positive swab, however the first case was quashed when it was found the sample had been contaminated.
Lew's wife Ronda explains their full side of the story to Ben Walker in tomorrow's Daily Liberal.
