DUBBO smokers will be breaking the law if they light up at outdoor locations like sporting fields and children's places, with new anti-smoking laws in NSW coming into effect from today.

The state government said smoking was now illegal at locations such as children's playgrounds, public transport stations, sporting fields, public pools and entrances to NSW public buildings.
Cancer Council NSW manager for policy and advocacy Anita Tang said the reforms would help protect people.
"These new measures will protect children, parents and the whole community from toxic second-hand smoke," Ms Tang said in a statement on Friday.
She said the new laws would also help reduce the likelihood of future generations becoming smokers.
Smoking is one of the leading causes of preventable deaths in Australia, with more than 15,000 Australians dying from tobacco-related illnesses each year.
About 21 deaths every day are from cancer, one-quarter of which involve working-age Australians.
