Her nine-year-old son Kayleb "Buddy" Paul O'Neill will be farewelled at a Dubbo funeral this Friday by family and friends 10 days after his tragic death.
The 12-year-old boy also involved in the motorcycle crash was expected to arrive home on Monday afternoon from Westmead Children's Hospital where it is understood he was treated for a broken leg and facial injuries.
Ms Smith initially thought Kayleb had survived the crash but had severe injuries, until she reached the paddock where the accident occurred.
"My little boy Bob came back to see me and said that Kayleb had a crash," she said.
"I rushed there thinking he had a broken arm or leg but when I got there the ambulance officers said there was nothing they could do."
Ms Smith addressed concerns raised by community members about Kayleb not wearing a helmet at the time he was thrown off the back of the motorcycle and killed.
