Closest example Rise of the Guardians, a story about childhood heroes fighting for the safety of the world's children, was the pick of the day for 11-year-old Dakota Santilly and her friends.
Reading Cinemas Dubbo manager Zara Jom said that film had received a good response from viewers ahead of school holidays and the Boxing Day rush.
"School groups over the last two weeks have really thought it was great," she said.
Ms Jom was disappointed there was not a proper Christmas release this year, and suggested each season would always be different.
"I do think the storylines have been done too much, maybe some of the cheer's gone out of it," she said.
But not for viewers - Ms Jom herself named Bad Santa as her favourite Christmas movie.
That debate differed for a range of Dubbo residents, including Liam Alderdice, who gave some thought to his answer.
"Elf I think would be mine, because it's funny and I like Will Ferrell," he said.
The love for a comical Christmas film was common, which is why Grace Dunn picked The Santa Clause.
"I haven't seen it for ages, it's pretty fun, all three of them actually," she said.
Kelly Munge named Tim Allen's other famous Christmas venture as her favourite.
"Christmas With The Kranks - it's very funny, and everyone can relate to it with their families," she said.
Julie Frederickson's pick of Christmas films had a slightly more dramatic side although still with plenty of fun.
"Love Actually, I love it."
