Lance Jackson pleaded guilty to a charge of larceny.
Police withdrew an additional charge of entering a vehicle without consent.
The Aboriginal Legal Service asked for a bond.
The court heard Jackson was intoxicated at the time of the offence.
"He has been abusing cannabis for four years,'' the solicitor representing Jackson said.
Magistrate Eckhold told Jackson he was starting to develop a criminal record.
"Your drug use is a concern. It causes me concern," the magistrate said.
Jackson will be supervised by the probation and parole service for 12 months.
Magistrate Eckhold said drug rehabilitation was indicated.
