The man cannot be named by order of the court. He faced Magistrate Andrew Eckhold via audiovisual link from Wellington Correctional Centre.
The man was arrested after an early morning incident in Dubbo on September 11.
A brief of evidence has been prepared by the Department of Public Prosecutions. Magistrate Eckhold set the matter down for hearing on February 25.
Interim apprehended violence orders have been imposed to protect the alleged victim.
