Meg Morris’ sterling effort on foot sealed her win in the Dubbo Triathlon Club race last Sunday.
What made the teenager’s race so impressive was that it was only her second triathlon and her first race with the Dubbo club.
Morris, 14, crossed the finish line in first place with a time of one hour and 53 seconds.
Her swim and bike leg were both strong but the teenager says her run was where she “gave it all she had”.
Morris swam swiftly with a time of eight minutes and 24 seconds followed by a 37 minute 16 second cycle leg time and a quick 15 minute 13 second run.
Second and third place getters Michelle Beattie and Lisa Tratt were hot on Morris’ heels.
Beattie secured second place in the women’s division with a time of one hour, two minutes and 20 seconds. She was closely followed by Lisa Tratt who completed the race in one hour, two minutes and 31 seconds.
Sunday’s race consisted of a 500m swim in the Macquarie River, an 18km bike ride and a 4km run.
Star on the rise Matt Pellow, 21, won the men’s division completing the race in under an hour.
Pellow’s time of 50 minutes and two seconds was ideal preparation for the biggest challenge of his career.
In May the professional athlete will race in non-drafting Olympic distance races in the USA, consisting of a 1500m swim, 40km bike and a 10km run leg.
Pellow executed a quick swim time of just over six minutes, a cycle time of just under half an hour and a 14 minute 23 second run time.
Craig May placed second with a time of 52 minutes and 18 seconds. Tim Furney followed May to claim third place in 54 minutes and 19 seconds.
Sunday’s race conditions were complimentary with a steady river flow and temperatures rose towards the end of the race.
