On the weekend the Dubbo Tri club hosted a training camp with Brisbane-based coach Allan Pitman, who assisted Simon Friend to his vast improvement in the time at the Ironman Triathlon World Championship at Hawaii in October last year.
Pitman also competed at Hawaii himself more than 10 times and at 62 years of age he looks and acts like a man half his age - an inspiration for all of us.
A group of 17 athletes from Dubbo, Orange and Bathurst attended the camp going through both practical sessions focusing on technique, information sessions focusing on nutrition and mental attitude to racing with core strength and stretching demonstration.
This information sharing started at 5.45am on Saturday finishing up at 4.30pm with a get together on Saturday evening to learn even more in a social environment.
Sunday started with the second event the club hosted for the weekend, Dubbo’s round of the InterClub series.
It was a great success and used by Allan Pitman to learn more about the athletes attending the training camp.
After the interclub the camp continued with a race report from Pitman to those that raced interclub followed by question and answer session which took the course to about 4pm on Sunday afternoon.
Everyone that attended thought the weekend was a huge success and extremely beneficial.
A massive thanks must go to the organisers of the weekend, for due to their efforts not only did we all learn a lot from the time with Pitman, the weekend’s budget showed a surplus.
From this money $700 has been donated to the flood appeal through Max Value Chemist in Centro, Dubbo who has promised to match any donations made, so your small success will benefit some others as well.
The second round of the Central Western Triathlon InterClub series was held in Dubbo on Sunday morning.
There were 103 people competing on the day from the Dubbo, Mudgee, Orange, Bathurst and Cowra clubs.
There was some fast racing going on at the end of the field, with Ayden Toovey from Mudgee leading the field home followed by some locals, Simon Friend only seven seconds behind him but the excitement was found in the third and four places with a photos finish between Mick Broomfield and Craig May.
Broomfield was found to be a half nose in front with aid of the photo.
The ladies race was just like last season, a family affair and all Orange club, Laura and Christine Wolfson daughter and mother first and second followed by Janet Martin for third.
But the InterClub series is more about the points the competitors obtain for their club, and after two rounds Mudgee 536, Orange 331, Dubbo 219, Bathurst 5 and Cowra 3.
The next InterClub races will be held in Orange on February 6 at Lake Canobalas; Cowra February 13 from the local pool and the series final to be held at Bathurst on February 27 at Ben Chifley Dam. All races start at 9am.
Good luck to all the local members that will be racing at the other InterClub and represent the Dubbo Club. Race well and travel safe.
Local senior races for the season will be held on February 20 and March 20 - with a long course race and presentation for the season April 3.
There will also be junior races on February 12 and March 13.
