The Narromine community can’t get enough of the Gorillas and on Saturday one of the town’s biggest crowds watched their first grade continue its unbeaten run in the Blowes Menswear Cup.
On the back of a 40-0 lead at half time, Narromine didn’t let up in the final 40 minutes and came away with a 71-5 win over the Dubbo Rhinos.
Only a wayward pass from Jeremy Brown in the final stages allowed live wire Johnny Rathbone to swoop and he raced away for an intercept try.
After six tries against Parkes last game, centre Luke Harding had another fabulous afternoon crossing for four tries while winger CJ Smyth again had a field day.
Last week he booted 12 conversions from as many attempts and on Saturday finished with three tries and eight conversions for a personal points haul of 31 points.
From numbers 1 to 15 and the bench, Narromine are strong across the paddock and they showed that against the Rhinos.
Dan Maroulis at No.8 was super as were his fellow forwards. They powered over the top of the Rhinos early, and then it was their backs that finished off.
Five-eighth Sam Ward’s ability to take the ball to the advantage line and draw in the defence was first class and Ryan Pratten at half back wasn’t too far behind.
Their clean ball from the breakdown was efficient and this allowed centres Harding and Charlie MacInnes with tons of room to move and the tries came accordingly.
There are many who suggest MacInnes is having his best ever season.
To cap off the day for Narromine, they won the minor grades - 31-11 in seconds, 22-12 thirds and 33-3 Colts. And there’s more.
The club’s first ever women’s team brought Dubbo Rhinos unbeaten run to an end winning 37-17.
Saturday was also ladies day for the Narromine club with a huge turnout, they had some of the schoolboys rugby kids there as well and they won all five games of football.
Next week is the block buster Narromine versus Dubbo Roos clash at No.1 Oval.
It should be huge.
