Former Forbes Magpie Joel Thompson will play in the centres for the Canberra Raiders in their trial against Canterbury Bulldogs in Dubbo on Saturday.
The Indigenous All-Star utility has been shifted to the centres to accommodate the injury to Joel Monaghan.
Monaghan will meet with his surgeon today to determine the extent of his broken thumb, but it’s expected the representative centre could be out for up to eight weeks.
Also in the starting 13 announced yesterday is a second former-Forbes player, lock Josh Miller.
Raiders NRL All-Star David Shillington will start the match at front row after being named on the bench for the first trial match against the Broncos, while Travis Waddell returns to the team after sitting out last weekend.
The Raiders will leave Canberra by coach early Thursday morning and have a stopover in Forbes on the way meeting with school kids and others.
Josh Miller’s mother Phyllis Miller is mayor of the town and a keen rugby league fan.
The Raiders will be in Dubbo for the Group 11 rugby league function the same night at the Dubbo RSl Club.
