LAWN BOWLS
With a loss when they last travelled the Western Warriors are hoping for a different fate this Saturday when they play a double-header against Warilla and Taren Point at Warilla this weekend.
Manager Paul Hagarty said his seventh-placed team will have to win the next two games in order to make it back into the final six.
“We are really feeling the loss of our last trip to Mount Lewis,” he said.
“But we will bounce back and put in a sustained effort this weekend.”
With a few years of playing premier league competition under their belt, Hagarty is confident in the warriors ability to perform against two of the best teams in the league.
“The fact the blokes are now coming on with three or four years experience puts them in good stead,” he said.
“We are all aware of how to perform at premier league level.”
The experience of player Matt Pietersen is sure to lift the team’s morale.
“He is a stand out,” Hagarty said.
“It is a great benefit to have someone who has played in Sydney in one of the toughest local competitions going around.
“A lot of the players are able to learn from his ability and he encourages everyday right across the green.”
Despite his recent sea change, moving from Dubbo to Warilla, John Ferguson will stick by his old team mates when he plays with the Dubbo-based team this weekend.
Having settled into the town well and fitting in plenty of bowls with his busy work schedule he has no concerns about coming up against his home side.
“It will be difficult because they are the two hardest sides in the competition...but I am looking forward to it,” he said.
“I’ve played against quite a few of them over the years and in the last couple of weeks had some games against the individual guys.”
Speaking to his Dubbo team-mates on the phone he is has sensed they are all very keen to win.
“We will play as best as we can like any other game...but I think you lift your game when you play against better known players,” he said.
