Project looking to future of soccer

07 Nov, 2009 04:00 AM
Football NSW’s newest initiative named Project 22 is the implementation of an elite player development system aimed at producing future Socceroos and Matildas, who will potentially compete at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Project 22 seeks to identify the best players in the Under 9 to 12 age group across NSW, aiming to lay down the foundations required to give the best youth footballers in the State the highest chance possible to succeed at the elite level.

A squad of nine Under-9s and nine Under-10s will form the Under-9/10s squad and nine Under-11s and nine Under-12s will form the Under-11/12s squad.

Both squads will include goalkeepers.

The players selected will have three sessions per week under the Project 22 curriculum and will also compete in game days against the other Project 22 squads from country NSW and Sydney metropolitan areas.

Trials for the Western NSW Project 22 squads will be held this Sunday, November 8 at Jack Brabham Oval in Orange.

The Under-9s and 10s will commence at 10am while the Under-11s and 12s commence at 1:30pm.

All players must register at www.westernfootball.com.au to be eligible to participate.
