It will be a case of rock concert to red carpet for local cycling star Megan Dunn this week.
What has already been another amazing year for 18-year-old Dunn is about to get a whole lot more exciting - and it started last night when she took her mum Joy to the Brittany Spears concert in Sydney.
The six-time World Junior champion, who finished her HSC last Thursday, will stay in Sydney to attend the 2009 NSW Institute of Sport (NSWIS) Awards dinner at the AJC Centre before returning to Dubbo on Friday.
Then on Sunday, Dunn heads down to Melbourne for the Cycling Australia Awards, where she is again in line for the Junior Cyclist of the Year Award.
The girl who added three world titles to the three she won last year to make her the most successful cyclist male or female in the sport’s history has been nominated for two NSWIS awards.
She has been nominated for the Out And About Marketing and Media Junior Athlete of the Year and the Communities NSW, Sport and Recreation Regional Excellence Awards.
The junior award sees the Dubbo young gun up against fellow cyclist Alex Carver (Hinchinbrook), rising Hockeyroos Casey Eastham (Albion Lark) and Emily Hurtz (Camden) and Winter Olympic, snowboarder Nate Johnstone (Mona Vale).
In the Regional Excellence category Dunn faces an all-star cast of sailors Iain Jensen (Fishing Point) and Nathan Outteridge (Wangi Wangi) , Paralympic wheelchair Track and Road star Kurt Fearnley (Carcoar) and AWD Winter Sports star Shannon Dallas (Terrigal).
And she will again be rubbing shoulders with the likes of Australia’s latest athletics star Dani Samuels and swimmers Libby Trickett, Andrew Lauterstein and Geoff Huegill.
Talkback radio host Alan Jones will be the MC for an evening that honours the best of the best in NSW Sport.
Dunn’s father Neil said his daughter was looking forward to the week.
“But I can’t say the same for my wife (Joy),” Neil said yesterday.
“I’m not sure what she was in for last night at the Brittany Spears concert.
“But they are both looking forward to the NSWIS Awards, which she also attended last year.”
And although Dunn is never far away from her bike (which she has taken to Sydney), she will start her training in earnest next Wednesday when she heads back to Sydney for a training camp.
