After a successful inaugural season the Pastoral Hotel Premier League twenty20 series returns complete with four brand new captains to lead the franchises.
In 2008-09 Jason Green led the Garden Rhinos to the first premiership and this year Nathan Munro will be responsible for defending the title.
Wes Giddings takes over from Jason Ryan to lead the Pastoral Pirates and Tim Berry will be the skipper of Macquarie Inn Indoor Magic.
Meanwhile 2009-10 sees the Commercial Cowboys enter the fray with RSL-Whitney Cup leading run scorer and Dubbo Country Cup captain John Colwell hoping to steer the new franchise in the right direction.
The Pastoral Hotel Premier League draft and barbecue will take place tomorrow night at the Pastoral Hotel from 6.30pm with the four captains to take turns in moulding their teams.
The player pool from which they have to choose appears stronger than last season with some players who opted out last year throwing their hat in the ring this time around.
Furthermore, huge recent totals in local competition suggests players will be well adjusted to the shorter version of the game, which features rapid-fire scoring and plenty of excitement.
“A few blokes like Brad and Tim Cox from RSL-Colts and Rugby’s Michael Kempston have decided to play this year which will make the competition even stronger,” Dubbo and District Cricket Association (DDCA) president Aaron Etcell said.
“There are also a few older blokes from my club (Souths) like Mark O’Donnell, Cameron Humphries and Rod Morrison looking forward to playing Twenty20.”
Each of the six Dubbo clubs nominated 10 players each with a total pool of 60 players to be split into four 15-man squads.
The first eight players in each team are selected by the captains with the final seven drawn at random.
“The four captains draw numbers one to four in each round of picks to determine the order in which they pick,” Etcell said.
“The DDCA would like to see all nominated players attend the draft to receive their shirts and caps.
“There will also be a barbecue and everyone is invited to come down and have a look.”
The first round of Twenty20 matches under lights at No.1 Oval will see a double-header on Friday, November 20 with Pastoral Pirates to play Garden Rhinos and Indoor Magic against Commercial Cowboys.
There will be eight single rounds while the other doubleheader will take place on January 15 and the grand final will be played on February 19.
