This November is set to be the hottest Dubbo has experienced in 15 years.
According to Weatherzone’s Matt Pearce, to see an average minimum of 17 degrees and maximum of 34 degrees in November in Dubbo is very unusual.
“In fact it is unprecedented in the historical record to have such widespread and extreme heat that we are seeing across wide swathes of Australia this early in the season,” he said.
Mr Pearce said the highest maximum this month, 41 degrees on Monday, fell just short of the November record of 42 on November 30, 2004.
“The main reason for the early and sustained heat this year is a large and persistent blocking high pressure system in the Tasman Sea,” he said.
“This has had a dual effect of causing persistent northwesterly winds across southeastern Australia and preventing any significant cool changes.”
Mr Pearce said the El Nino pattern that is currently in place favours higher than average temperatures and below average rainfall across inland eastern Australia during spring.
“The next couple of days will continue to be extremely hot with 43 degrees on Thursday and 44 on Friday before a slight drop off to 39 on Saturday and 36 on Sunday,” he said.
More seasonal temperatures are expected early next week.
