Cool start to summer days, but high temperatures near

02 Dec, 2009 03:00 AM
A cool change has come over Dubbo with yesterday’s temperature reaching a pleasant top of 26 degrees. And with today’s expected top at 28, it’s a welcome relief when compared to the record-breaking 43 degrees experienced just two weeks ago on November 20.

But the cooler days are expected to be short lived, and with summer officially begun yesterday extreme temperatures will inevitably make a return.

According to Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Ewen Mitchell Dubbo’s hottest recorded temperature in December was 42.8 in 1949.

He said although temperatures would warm up again as the week continued it was too early to predict what the weatherman would bring out for Christmas Day.

“We are a bit uncertain, at this stage, we can only really see into next week,” he said.

“We will see 35 degrees on Friday before a change on Saturday that will only lower the temperature to the low 30s.”

Mr Mitchell said winds were also likely to increase.

“Winds are currently coming from the east but they will go back to west, north-west and it will get windier,” he said.

With winds and higher temperatures Mr Mitchell said the fire danger would increase.

Looking back on November Weatherzone’s Matt Pearce said two individual day records were set with the 15-year maximum of 43 degrees and the highest recorded minimum of 27 degrees on November 22.

Overall Dubbo received close to 13 mm of rain during November and Mr Pearce said December should see near normal rainfall.
