POLICE are investigating a serious crash involving two trucks about five kilometres north of Dubbo.
About 6.45pm on Wednesday evening police and other emergency services were called to a section of the Newell Highway, following reports of an incident involving two trucks.
The driver of the first truck was taken by ambulance to Dubbo before being airlifted to Sydney with substantial injuries, police said in a statement.
The driver of the second truck suffered only minor injuries
Light vehicles are being diverted in both directions via Mendooran Road to Mendooran, where they use the Castlereagh Highway to rejoin the Newell Highway at Gilgandra.
Heavy vehicles are diverted in both directions via the Golden Highway to Dunedoo, then Castlereagh Highway to Gilgandra.
The affected section of the Newell Highway is expected to be closed until late this afternoon to allow the scene to be assessed in daylight.
