The winner will take home more than $5000 worth of prizes and forever hold the title of Miss Dubbo Showgirl 2008.

Showgirl co-ordinator Jane Diffey urges young local women aged 18 to 25 years to enter the competition before the closing date of April 9.

“It is a fantastic way to represent your community and it provides you with great opportunities both personally and career-wise,” Ms Diffey said.

“It is a great way to meet people and develop your communication skills as well as other personal attributes.”

The first entrant for this year is 20-year-old Stephanie Rees.

Stephanie is currently studying a Bachelor of Finance and Law at Newcastle University. She enjoys horse riding, cooking, sewing and helping on the farm.

“I think I would be a great ambassador for the Dubbo community. I grew up in Dubbo, it is everything I know and everything I love,” she said.

Stephanie plans to move back to Dubbo when she has completed her degree.

“I want to combine my love of the land with my desire to establish a successful career in Dubbo,” she said.

Ms Diffey says this year’s aspiring showgirls have a strong chance at making it to the Royal Easter Show next year.

“This year Dubbo is in Zone 6 which is the same zone as this year’s Royal Easter Showgirl, Peak Hill local Anna Unger.

The possibilities for the girls are endless,” she said.

Judging will be held on April 12 when the showgirl contestants are interviewed by judges and attend a prestigious luncheon.

The winner will be announced that night at the official showgirl presentation to be held at the Western Plains Cultural Centre.
