A very rare and exotic 1925 Doble steam car, once owned by American aviator Howard Hughes will be making its way through Dubbo this weekend, along with several other vintage and classic cars for the Bush Council Easter Car Rally.
The Doble arrived in the city on Sunday night and it’s owners Barry Herbert and Basil Craske from London, England arrived yesterday.
The automobile will tour across Dubbo for the next four days and will be on show at the rally exhibition day on Sunday at Victoria Park No.2 oval.
Rally co-ordinator Matt Lack was very excited to have the Doble included in the rally and expects it to attract a lot of interest from people attending the exhibition day on Sunday.
“For the last two years we have been busting ourselves to have this car included in the rally and I must say I was very excited when it arrived in Dubbo on Sunday,” Mr Lack said.
Mr Lack said there was only 16 1925 Dobles left in the world and one was currently being restored by well-known American TV personality Jay Leno.
The car was sea freighted from London to Sydney, where it took part in rallies along the coast before arriving here in Dubbo this weekend.
Mr Lack said there would be more than 200 vintage and classic vehicles taking part in this weekend’s rally and he looks forward to catching up with fellow car enthusiasts from across the country.
Mr Lack said he loves vintage and steam vehicles, mainly because of the reception they receive when they are driven.
“They are great conversation starters and people are always very friendly and receptive when they see you driving them,” he said.
Mr Lack is encouraging all Dubbo residents to get out and have a look at some of the vehicles in town this weekend, and attend the exhibition day at Victoria Park on Sunday.
