Potential showgirls face big day of judging

This morning dawns with the promise of treats and trials for the five entrants in the Dubbo Showgirl competition.

The young women will face the judges in an individual interview this morning, followed by a luncheon at the Western Plains Cultural Centre.

The final judging will take place at tonight’s presentation where the women will have to speak on stage in front of the assembled guests and judges.

Lucy Carr attended St John’s College

and is now studying at Charles Sturt University (CSU) Dubbo to be a primary school teacher.

Her ambition is to be a leading educator in rural NSW by creating and implementing school programs that focus on the physical and mental wellbeing of rural children.

Keera Board, a graduate of Dubbo College, is studying primary education while working at Fitness Perfection and GrainCorp.

Besides her ambition to teach in a rural community, Keera wants to continue to promote youth involvement in agriculture through education and community organisations.

Heather Bowdren was originally from Gilgandra but now lives, works and studies in Dubbo.

She aims to finish her Bachelor of Social Welfare and move through domestic violence work to education and prevention.

Jackie Hunt finished Year 12 at St John’s College and is restaurant manager at McDonald’s Family Restaurant.

Her ambitions are to complete a Diploma in Business Management and

Retail Operations, travel overseas and enjoy life.

The four women join the first entrant, Stephanie Rees, who is studying finance and law at Newcastle University.

Miss Rees plans to combine her love of the land with a successful career in Dubbo.
